THANKSGIVING

Like many big celebrations, Thanksgiving started with a big shopping effort the evening before.
The kids insisted on building the ginger bread house right away. OK then!
One person was mostly building, two others were mostly eating.

The building process was followed by sugar-induced yoga practice. After that, the evening concluded with storytelling, during which the children learned about the dark side of Thanksgiving, i.e. oppression of Native Americans.
Equipped with the appropriate drink ...
 Marko began the culinary preparations.

While the rest of the family enjoyed the Thanksgiving Parade on TV.

Daycare had prepared the children well for this day.
While the turkey was roasting, there was time for games in the park, e.g. Marko's invention "stroller ball".

 The ducks ignored us...
as did the geese. Probably a good thing.

The kids love singing and swinging.

Temperatures up to 16C made it hard to believe it was almost December.

It was clearly too warm for a fire.
But cuddling up with a book is still the best.
 The cooking continued.
Thanks to Samu for the appropriate centerpiece!
 Getting there ...
Ready! Two of the most traditional Thanksgiving dishes: turkey and apple pie.

The special moment: carving the turkey

It was delicious! Thank you, Marko, for preparing a whole Thanksgiving dinner. A huge accomplishment for you and a great satisfaction for us! Although we initially wanted to take an experimental route, Samu convinced us to go traditional, and we are glad he did. He really loves the predictability and order of traditions. He even knew how to say what he was thankful for. Good job, daycare! ;-)

The cooking continued (!) early the next morning.
What can go wrong with these little helpers?

Another trip to the park, with lots of leaf games.

Here is what we are most grateful for:

Back at home, we continued the same program in our backyard.

And after all the hard work of repeatedly making neat leaf piles was done ...
we enjoyed a cup of eggnog. Nummy!
We have so much to be grateful for, most importantly our families and friends.
Happy Thanksgiving!
