COMMENCEMENT

Hanna's cap and gown greeting us in the morning.
 Excited about the special day.

 Off we go!

A big hall for a small girl.
Waiting for the show to begin.
Backstage...

Hello, class of 2014!

The graduation speech was delivered by former Mayor A. Rybak. We liked it because he did not merely praise us graduates for their achievements, but was also very clear about what a privilege it was to do a PhD program and what society would expect of us in the future.

After the speeches, the brand-new doctors were hooded on stage. This means that members of the faculty and university leaders placed the blue scarf over the candidate's head.
After that, a bit more talking and singing followed. In all, it was a very festive and well-orchestrated ceremony. But the best part was hugging Sofia and Marko right after. (Samu was not there.)

Hanna's department gave a reception at a close-by restaurant. It was so nice to chat with families, co-graduates and faculty members and celebrate this special day together.

Co-graduates Chelda and Martina. Graduating with such fine people is a true honor.
Back at home.

Fotoshooting with cap and gown a few days later.

 The tassel.
Thankfully, at least two members of our family don't care at all about academic achievement yet.

PhD or not, kids keep it real.

One was excited about a new hat.

The other one very annoyed with that hat.
THANK YOU ALL FOR MAKING MY DAY SO SPECIAL!

MOTHER'S DAY

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL THE WONDERFUL MOTHERS OUT THERE, ESPECIALLY OUR OWN ONES.

BOSTON

As soon as the last class was taught, we went off to Boston in search of a new home (and daycare). It was a quite busy trip (ha, understatement!) so we did not have a lot of time for pictures, but we still could not help but notice the beauty of this town. Spring helped a lot, of course.

Travel preparations: Samu badly wanted his own suitcase.
 Alright then.

After only 3 hours of sleep, our journey began. *Yawn*

 Landing in Boston.
Spring!

Almost all the time we drove through streets like this one, lined by trees.
On our last evening, friends of our friend Mel welcomed us into their home and served us dinner. Not only did we have a lovely evening with this lovely family, we might also rent their house. Stay tuned ...
