Last week, Hanna spent three days in Southern California at the annual convention of the American Council of the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). San Diego is a wonderful city - especially in November! Just a few miles from the Mexican border, it unites cool architecture, beach life, and mild temperatures with all the goodness of Chicana/o culture.
Former student, now excellent Spanish teacher and friend Leisa!
We ate. (For example fresh waffles.)
We learned. (For example that comparative language difficulty is not real.)
We worked outside.
Inside joke ;-)
The best part of conferences is reconnecting with old friends! Hello, Andie!
We enjoyed Coronado beach - a lot!
We learned that San Diego is home of one of Hanna's favorite foods: tacos.
But the highlight of every business trip will always be this: Skyping home.
Look at all these language teachers and teacher educators!
Andie's and Hanna's workshop on teaching critical culture lessons drew quite a crowd considering it was on a Saturday evening.
The reward for a job well done:
A reunion with Minnesota friends in the historic gaslamp district.
Thank you, San Diego! Thank you, friends! Thank you, Marko for making it all possible.
Welcome back to Boston!
