NORMAL

After the excitement and business of this past week and in face of all the upcoming excitement and business (Thanksgiving, conferences, etc.), all we wanted was a totally normal, non-exciting weekend. And we got it! Here are some impressions.

It's that time of the year again when we leave our offices in the dusk or dark. At least for now, it's still enjoyable, especially with temperatures around 20C.

Because the School of Education has been extremely understaffed, Hanna has agreed to take on the position of interim "Faculty Director" (department chair) for a little while. A big responsibility that definitely warrants a "normal weekend".
Kids keep it real: In case you ever feel overly important after a day of work, remember: You might be wearing bunny ears before you know it. Every night is a night to dress up.

Marko has been filling the house with the wonderful smell and atmosphere of baking and cooking. Pies, bread, pizza, buns, compotes, sauces, fish and veggies ... Hmmm!
Sofia prefers to dine in style.

Samu has inherited Marko's love for all things related to cooking. His favorite spot is next to the pots. It's quite remarkable what he is learning up there. We're pretty sure he could instruct any babysitter on how to make Finnish specialties.
It's been a busy week, and busy usually means that we don't get much exercise. At some point, our bodies just can't take it anymore and we need to leave our desks. And look what our immediate neighborhood has to offer - not bad, not bad at all.

 Welcome to our home!

It seems like we are in the last stretches of the diaper age - yay!

The nights were so warm that we decided to do something special: A backyard-fire-party!

Sunday was Finnish father's day. We started it off with a long breakfast and parallel-Skype dates with Laurenz, Irene, and our favorite baby Franziska and Ukki and Mummi. Perfect normal Sunday morning!

We decided to spend another day in our neighborhood to complete our "normal weekend". We love the park across the street from us. Although the leaves have turned brown and the playing structures are old, we know of no better place to watch geese, feed ducks, climb trees, play tennis or just run around.

 Leave games.

The day continued to be super sunny and warm, so we had coffee outside and headed out to another park not far from us.
 Happy Finnish Father's Day!

Even though they love the playgrounds, we can't shake the feeling that our kids would be perfectly happy with just endless space to run.
Happy new week!
