MARTHA

Martha came to visit last week! Hanna had received a small grant to invite her to BU, where she gave a fantastic talk about her work with preliterate refugee youth and students with limited/interrupted formal education.

Marko found the right beer to set the mood.
The talk was extremely well attended - especially by Hanna's students ;-)
After a heartwarming tribute to Hanna, Martha gave an excellent overview of her work. Her 10+ years of research with refugee youth have truly changed the field of Applied Linguistics.
Not enough space in the room ...
Traditional research and teaching have to change to match the needs and assets of refugee youth.

The kids loved hanging out with Martha.

Making connections: Students, faculty, and community leaders from across Boston.

We loved having Martha here at BU and in our home. Thank you so much for coming!

After Hanna had to work most of Saturday for BU's Open House, we spent the rest of the sunny afternoon in Cambridge.
Harvard side entrance: "Enter to grow in wisdom" - not sure if it worked.

It was great to see a new side of Boston/Cambridge. Exhausted, we returned home.
